About The Event: Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood's latest DVD releases! Prisoners is a drama starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano, Maria Bello, and Terrence Howard. The Friends of the Library will provide moviegoers with two slices of pizza, a snack, and a can of soda/bottle of water.

About The Film: In the rural New England town of Brockton, Massachusetts, neighbors and friends the Dovers and the Birches gather for Thanksgiving dinner, but by the end of the night, their celebration turns to panic when the families' two youngest daughters go missing. As the hours pass and the girls don't turn up, it becomes terrifyingly apparent they've been kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) decides to take the law into his own hands, running up against dedicated Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal). But even as Loki is diligently working against the clock to solve the case, Keller will stop at nothing to get their prime suspect to talk before it's too late. Rated R for disturbing violent content including torture, and language throughout. 153 minutes.

After a rough two years during-and-post pandemic, people are finally getting back to movie theaters. It's been good to have big summer blockbusters lighting up the screens and electrifying audiences again.

There were serious doubts as to whether movie theaters would make it out of the pandemic with in-home competition and lockdown restrictions, but now theaters are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. To celebrate a great summer and thank moviegoers, there will be an unprecedented nationwide "thank you."

Nation's biggest chains joining forces with local and independent movie houses to say thank you by lowering ticket prices to $3 this Saturday, September 3. This herculean coming together was orchestrated, or should I say directed, by The Cinema Foundation, and even includes movies in IMAX and other premium formats.

Easy - any movie playing on Saturday! You could see any film currently running in theaters, like Top Gun: Maverick, the latest Minions, or Bullet Train. There are also special offerings for National Cinema Day.

For any Marvel fans, the $3 weekend also coincides with the theatrical re-release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which originally came out in December. If you love the classics, some theaters will be screening Jaws (very topical on Long Island this summer, I hear) and the 1958 monster movie, The Blob.

Albany NY - A portion of an upcoming WWII movie was filmed on the USS Slater DE 766 Former Battleship, docked in Albany. Filming for 'Orion in Midsummer' began aboard the USS Slater on August 17 and continued for nine days through August 29, 2008.

Tokyo based production company Destiny, Inc. filmed the movie in conjunction with Marcom Visual Creation, Inc. of NYC. The story is set in the Pacific Ocean near the end of the second World War. The storyline encompasses the final days of the war and the struggle between Japanse submarines and American destroyers. The USS Slater was chosen for the role because the ship remains the last Destroyer Escort afloat in the US. Other portions of the movie was filmed in Japan and other locations.

Well, good news. Looks like the Madison Theatre will indeed be reopening but as expected it won't be the same Madison that the community has come to know and love. However, it does seem like it will still offer a unique movie going experience just with less of a retro experience and more of a modern touch.

The Madison is expected to get taken over by Cosmic Cinemas. According to the TU the plan is for the four screens to get upgraded with state of the art digital projection, add in new rocker seats, show primarily new films, all while offering from scratch meals and high end cocktails while you watch. The new theater is going to cater to the adult moviegoer claiming to be
